Fun with Google!

You might not think this sounds fun, but Google's got anaddicting "game" for you to try... one that sucked me in for a good hour last night.

The Google Image Labeler pairs you with another user to match labels in an attempt to earn points.

Over a two-minute period, you and your partner will:
  • View the same set of images.
  • Provide as many labels as possible to describe each image you see.
  • Receive points when your label matches your partner's label. The number of points will depend on how specific your label is.
  • See more images until time runs out.
It's basically a photo/word association game that you play with someone you've never met.

The points mean nothing and the whole point of the activity is the betterment of Google's image search feature (tricky, tricky Google), but it's a fun way to kill time and learn that people all over the world think as simplistically as you do.

Give a try; you'll be addicted in no time!

Thanks, TJS!

Coasting by

Every morning on my way to work, I hear commercials for Six Flags Great Adventure's Dark Knight rollercoaster--a 1,213-foot, three-level ride that takes place completely indoors and transforms riders to Gotham visitors. And while all that sounds cool, waiting in line for that thing anytime within the next 15 months will be worse than when Kingda Ka came out (and p.s. the wait for that was still three hours when I went there two summers ago).

In fact, long lines is probably what drives most people away from taking a day-trip to an amusement park. That's why we should all learn a lesson from John Ivers, an Indiana man who got sick of waiting in line and built his own rollercoaster in his backyard. The thing runs over his shed and even has a 360 degree loop. [click here for more pictures]

Check out the video of John test-driving the coaster and sending small loved ones for a ride.

Fierce to the trannieth degree

Top Chef 4 premiered tonight--PRAISE THE LORD!!!

Buuuut, you couldn't have expected Project Runway to go out like a lamb. Check out this fierce Project Runway spoof from SNL this weekend. SNL sucks lately, but Amy Poehler's impression of Christian is fantastic--she looks just like him!

And Christian took it all in stride. In an e-mail to People magazine, he wrote:
“I thought it was SO FUNNY. Amy [Poehler] looked exactly like me which is kinda scary, but fabulous.”--Christian Siriano.
Love it!

Experience the 'O'

In honor of my two friends' inquiring minds, please visit this site--it helps you understand what the opposite sex experiences during a 'ride on the ole bone roller coaster.'

Have fun ;)

Need a napkin?

I know some people will think this is incredibly stupid...and it is, but I love it.

Watch and enjoy!...maybe, heh.

Making a good impression for the rest of us

Watch this reporter completely ruin one of the biggest moments in this couple's relationship. God, I love this profession.

So much better than the armpit fart

Here's your daily dose of puerile humor. Enjoy!

This guy must have been a joy as a child, walking around the house hand-farting all day.

And Yes, this is real. If you don't believe it, click the user profile and check this guy out on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Please also check out Stayin' Alive, Super Mario Bros. and Walk This Way. Fantastic.

Help the children!

I got this information via Facebook event, and I'd like to put the word out for readers to lend a hand - it takes like, three seconds, and it's for a great cause!

Colgate-Palmolive and Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation have teamed up this year to help children with Sickle Cell Disease and their families cope by providing 'Fun Centers' in hospitals, and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia is in the running.

I know many readers are not from the Philly area, so I guess you could vote for another hospital if you really wanted to...but if it doesn't make a difference to you, vote for St. Chris' and help the kiddies!

Besides, Philly can't win Super Bowls or World Series or Stanley Cups...(haha, sorry, had to put that in there), you can help them win something!

Writers won't strike against Taco Bell

So now in addition to the World Series free taco, the Stephen Colbert presidential endorsement and the Chicken Dance football bet, Yum! Brands Inc. has offered up yet another current event-inspired marketing ploy.

This time, Taco Bell is asking striking writers to consider writing the material for they clever (but sometimes creepy) sauce packets.

Some highlights of the saucy sayings: "If you throw this, would it be a flying saucer?" and "Use your stomach, nacho mind." [click here for a comprehensive and illustrative list]

Ten winners --who must be members of the Writer's Guild of America-- will be selected and receive a year's supply of free Taco Bell (up to $260)."
The writer's strike is now in its second month, and Taco Bell wanted to show its support for the thousands of creative minds itching to press pen to paper, or in our case, Border Sauce packets." - David Ovens, Chief Marketing Officer, Taco Bell.
Some of those packet lines are great, and personally, I'd love to have the opportunity to write for them. That would make my life much more complete than my current full-time writing position (not kidding), but sadly, the WGA has not extended an invitation to me just yet.

And just as an added bonus feature, if you visit this site, you can dress the sauce packet, and it actually responds with sayings to what you dress it in. It's some fun times, seriously!

'Give to me your paraphernalia, take from me my Lace'

You might not be pumped for NBC's reinvention of American Gladiators, perhaps because it's a WWE-ified version of its former self? Whatever happened to Zap, Diamond, Nitro...?

Well, I don't know about the rest of them, but Los Angeles PD busted former Gladiator babe Lace for possession of drug paraphernalia last week.

Lace? Drugs? Gosh, the joke is almost too easy. Maybe Blaze will get busted for marijuana next week.

Lace, also known as Marisa Pare, was held on $250 bail.

Side effects may include...anything you want

If you have a few minutes and the urge to create your own erectile dysfunction or bladder infection television spot, check out this Web site.

You seven pre-made slides to create some really wacky commercials, or at least, that's what I came up with. The actions are a little delayed at times, but it's pretty entertaining.

Feel free to post your work in the 'what do you think' section.

Vampire Weekend

A mention on this site might not boost a video to that "viral video" status, but if you've got a moment, check out this video by Vampire Weekend, "Punk." It's really a fun visual (almost like an OK GO on treadmills thing) and the song is really catchy. I imagine it'll be on some sort of commercial soon. Watch it!

TGIweekend

Hey, if beer pong has lost its jazz after 10 years of playing with the same group of people, perhaps you can try some mastery of the sport.

Check out this video of a skateboarder with arguably too much time on his hands. Some, or rather, most of these tricks are phenomenal, but please, if for some reason this is digitally mastered or completely fake, please let me know. It'd be like finding out Santa isn't real, but I'd still like to know so I can stop singing this guy's praises.

Watch and decide for yourself!

IKEA Sweet IKEA

Comedian Mark Malkoff, who works as a ticket handler for "The Colbert Report," won't be staying at friends' houses or in a hotel while his New York apartment is fumigated this week.

Instead, the 31-year-old will be staying at an IKEA store in Paramus, N.J., and documenting the experience on his Web site: Mark Malkoff Lives in IKEA. The videos are a little scripted in parts, but it's still awesome. The guy is living in an IKEA storefront and jumping on beds and wearing bathrobes that don't belong to him.

And by the looks of the videos, he's making a lot of friends in the store--employees, staff, customers...

The sinks and toilets don't work in his room, though, so the comedian will be using the employee locker room and using the cafeteria to cook meals he buys himself.

Malkoff contacted the store three weeks ago and they agreed to the arrangement, saying that it'd be fun, but he has to be out by the time the store closes Saturday night (IKEA is completely closed on Sundays).

Oddly enough, Malkoff's wife opted to stay with relatives while the apartment is unavailable. Bad decision, lady. This setup looks awesome.

If you want to visit Mark, you've gotta get out to the store by tomorrow night:

"Gladiators, are you ready?"

Please, tell me you didn't miss the premiere of NBC's American Gladiators tonight.

The two-hour reinvention of the 90's classic aired tonight and introduced America to 14 new Gladiators ready to whoop on some short and comparatively scrawny contenders: Blast, Crush, Fury, Hellga, Siren, Stealth and Venom for the women, and Hammer, Justice, Mayhem, Militia, Titan, Toa and Wolf for the men.

A little fun fact: Titan is the only Gladiator to be on both the original and the remake of the series, and Toa is the cousin of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

I was stoked for this show to start and tonight's double showing was entertaining, but honestly...it was a little too WWE for my taste. The extremely terrible overacting and audience singing "Nananana, hey hey hey, goodbye" every time someone fell into the water, sprinkled with the occasional heartfelt testimonial and shout out to the loving family, I felt like it was like fake-o wrestling meets Oprah Winfrey.

Also, I was pretty disappointed by how nice the female Gladiators were being. Don't shake that bitches hand--kick her while she's down!!

The 2008 American Gladiators leaves 1991 loyalists with much to be desired, but I was pleased to see the return of Assault (where contenders aim arrows and rockets at Gladiators while dodging 100-mph tennis ball shots) and the ever-popular Eliminator, which destroyed and embarrassed several of tonight's contenders.

I'm predicting the show probably won't last longer than this season (or until the strike ends), but for a shot of old school, cheesy, barbaric entertainment, check out the second part NBC's 2008 American Gladiators premiere tomorrow night at 8 p.m.

UPDATE: Titan appeared on a local radio show this morning saying that tonight's episode features a nice bone breaking - whoo hoo!

Interactive Tetris

In all the madness and obsession over Playstation 17 and Xbox180, honestly, I'm a little lost. Other than the Wii, I don't get why people are going nuts over these game systems.

I really miss the good 'ole days when I'd button mash and beat my brothers in Street Fighter, or come home and catch my parents playing Tetris anytime the console was free.

Yeah, Tetris... that was an awesome game, and if you happen to miss the game as much as I do, please watch this video of Human Tetris.

It's incredible, though I'm pretty sure I would totally dominate whoever is "playing" the game.

Deer-anged coach

A middle school coach in Georgia landed in jail after leading students on a vandalism stunt that left neighbors fuming and reindeer humping.

John Hayes, 46, reportedly loaded several of the teens into his pickup truck after dark (did that not cause alarm right off the bat?), and drove them around neighborhoods as they damaged Christmas displays. They even took those light-up reindeer and placed them in a sexual position--gasp!!

Hayes was confronted after a homeowner followed him. His explanation was that "it's just a bit of fun."

The coach would not give up the names of his underage accomplices, and is facing charges of trespassing, contributing to delinquency and reckless conduct. He was released on a $250,000 bond.

Come on, tell me you didn't know a teacher or coach when you were this age that would so totally do this with you. Yeah, it's wrong, but it's funny how much everyone is freaking out, so much so that it's national news. Me and my friend did this in high school, too. And that reindeer humping thing is sooo 2002.

Chocolate's 'Reign' over marketing

Hey, remember when I was pumping Dr. Pepper's latest beverage creation? Well apparently a mention on The Jerc Store wasn't a big enough advertising move, so they've turned to the latest trend in advertising and featured Tay Zonday.

...wait, who?

Tay Zonday, better known as the genius behind the viral video "Chocolate Rain," is making an even bigger name (and bank account) for himself by joining up with True Entertainment in the "Cherry Chocolate Rain" video.

The video--which at this point has 1,196,291 views--features Tay and rapper Mista Johnson in an over-the-top spoof on rap music and the original video that made Tay a star. Several scantily clad women and buckets of chocolate pour all over the vertically-challenged, but oddly precious, singer as he croons about "a love that took him by force": the Dr. Pepper soda embodied as an attractive woman.
I think this is pure genius. This won't be the driving force that gets people to like the sode, but this thing is going to be a huge part of getting the word out about this product. And the best part of the whole video is the completely misplaced squirrel toward the end of the video that gets doused in chocolate.
