Update

Now, not only is my laptop sick, but I'M sick now, too. Many apologies for the scarce posting. Apparently the laptop's got a Virtumonde or something. From what I'm told it's a pretty badass virus. [And if anyone knows how to get rid of it for good, PLEASE share!]

So, we're working on repairing the computer (and my health), and hopefully I can soon rejoin the blogging race...and stop burning my mouth on scalding hot tea, which I just did - @*?$%#!!!!!

vitrumonde is a very bad virus but fortunatly sometimes its a very easy fix. Before you do anything make sure you make a recovery point with system restore (Start>Menu>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore). This may not always help as some viruses use restore points to reinstall themselves after reboot, but you should be safe. Next download any virus protection software, I find "Avast!" to be the best, and find all viruses/adware/spyware. Then delete all files shown. Now restart your computer and go to "windows live onecare" and do a scan, once complete restart your computer again. Once up and running again go to windows update and make sure to update all software especially java because most viruses tend to attach themselves to older versions of software. Then scan your computer once again using "windows live onecare" just to make sure. Depending on how serious and which virtumonde virus you have this course of action might be useless but its still worth a shot. If you need the more serious infection tutorial just let me know
